SUMMARY:GB198LW - Radio 4 Long Wave Closure
DESCRIPTION:To mark the very sad ending of BBC Radio 4 broadcasting on Long Wave from the Droitwich transmitter\, CVRS will operate the special callsign GB198LW on 26th and 27th June. \nOperation will be from the club shack in Eltham\, with additional antennas erected for the event. There will be four stations capable of simultaneous operation. Three will cover the HF bands 80-10m on SSB\, CW and FT8. The fourth will be a VHF station on 2m FM for local and semi-local contacts. \nThe scout Hall will be open to the public from 10am-4pm on Saturday 27th with a display of vintage broadcast receivers and information about the Droitwich\, Westerglen and Burghead transmitting stations. Look out also for GB198KHZ and GB198END to mark the closure of the two Scottish stations. SUMMARY:SSB Field Day Contest and 2M Trophy Contest – 4-6 September
DESCRIPTION:We will be entering both these contests from the Crockenhill site used for the past couple of years. All are welcome to help set up and tear down\, operate\, or just to come and see what contesting is all about and have a cup of tea. Setup will start at 10am on Friday. Before the contest we will use the special callsign GB9RCV. Members are welcome to camp on-site. \nThe SSB contest starts at 2pmon Saturday. The 2m contest starts an hour later. For those members who are new to the club\, or who have not been able to get involved in the past\, the site is at Gosenhill Farm to the east of Crockenhill. The site NGR is TQ512671\, nearest postcode is BR8 8LB and what three words – bonds.decreased.shot. Coming east out of Crockenhill on Eynsford Road you will see a vertical wooden sign for Gosenhill Farm on the left\, but our site is on the RIGHT of the road\, i.e. the south side. There is a house sign ‘Cacketts Bank’ and there will also be CVRS signs. Follow the track round to the right and there is a parking area\, or if you want to drive to the top of the site go round to the left – there will be a route marked with road pins and hazard tape. \nAnyone able to help with set up and tear down or who would like to operate either the HF or VHF contest stations should contact Dave G4BUO – dave@g4buo.com to help with planning\, but all are welcome at any time..

SUMMARY:Working telephone collection club visit (Hayes\, Bromley)
DESCRIPTION:Club visit to a working telephone collection curated by Jason Workman\, on Saturday 12 September\, 2pm to 5pm\, run as one of the open afternoons Jason holds in aid of St Christopher’s Hospice. \n300+ telephones\, mostly British and American but ranging as far as the former Eastern Bloc. The oldest is a wooden magneto set from 1911; the newest a BT videophone from 1991. Three switchboards and fifteen exchanges and PABXs\, from small ten-line internal units up to GPO exchanges\, including a demonstration of a London Director exchange showing how a call was routed across London. \nDisplays of memorabilia\, tools\, Buzby\, and subscriber equipment. Best of all\, it all works. You can make calls through the exchanges and switchboards\, dial an emulation of the old Dial-A-Disc service\, ring the UK and USA speaking clocks\, try a 999 demonstration\, and see the Cold War “4-minute warning” system that was installed to warn of attack. There’s an American phone box with its own American number\, two working POA payphones complete with the "pips"\, and an older A/B box. \nThe garden holds around 60 comfortably\, so hopefully should be able to accommodate all those who are interested in attending. Please register your interest early so we can give Jason a headcount for refreshments\, by contacting me at dafydd.walters@gmail.com \nMuch of the collection lives in garden sheds\, so in the event of truly awful weather we have Saturday 19 September as a backup. \nThere’s no charge to attend. There will be donation tins on the day\, with everything going to St Christopher’s Hospice. Please do bring some cash for a good cause.

DESCRIPTION:‘Reprising CVRS Major Special Event Stations’\, presented by the club president Bob M0MCV and vice-president Dave G4BUO. Bob and Dave will be speaking about the club’s major special event stations that have been organised this century\, starting with M2000A\, up to the most recent major station GB23C to commomorate the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. \nOver the past few decades the club has mounted some genuinely large special event stations\, and this talk revisits them: 2O12L for the London Olympic Games\, GB200T for the 200th anniversary of Trafalgar\, and M2000A\, which welcomed in the new Millennium from English Heritage’s Ranger’s House on the Prime Meridian at Greenwich.
