SUMMARY:Club meeting - DF Hunt
DESCRIPTION:The CVRS meeting on the 18th June 2026 is the club’s annual DF Hunt; where we hunt Foxes! On Foot!\n\n\nWell\, not real foxes; those ones that **** on your lawn or front footpath – hidden electronic 50 mW transmitters which announce their presence with a timed\, sequential audio Morse call sign and message on the 2 metre band\, in the all mode section! Normally on two\, or three\, difference frequencies\, using FM tones. Receivable on any cheap\, or expensive\, transceiver – preferably an easily carried one! With an earpiece – to avoid becoming a public attraction. i.e. nuisance! Or\, giving the game away to a rival!\n\n\nYou will also need; a small hand-held directional antenna for 2 metres – just search the internet for “hand-held 144 Mhz DF antennas” and similar wording; to find many articles. And; a vital piece of gear – a switched attenuator – between the antenna and the radio! Again\, a quick internet search will yield results; just look for “DF Hunt attenuators”!\n\n\nWe will meet at The Crown in School Road\, Chislehurst\, BR7 5PQ at 7pm – or earlier if you want to dine ahead of the meeting! We will start hunting just after 7.30pm; it’s a case of who finds ALL the hidden transmitters (Byonics MicroFox 15 units) in the shortest time – and returns to the start point! Single entrants or small teams (max of three persons – prefer less) are accepted!\n\n\nThis is an excellent “fun evening” – especially for our new Foundation and Intermediate Licence holders – simple equipment that you may already have – or can construct (i.e the attenuator and/or antenna) – combining Pubs and Amateur Radio!\n\n\nPlease let Richard G8ITB know (g8itb@yahoo.co.uk) if you are going to take part – this will allow Richard to plan ahead!\n\n\nYou don’t have to be fit; but you must be able to walk along common land which is a bit rough and has tree roots\, etc. to trip up the unwary!
